The best cycle top I’ve ever bought!, 7 Sep 2010
This review is from: Gore Bike Wear Mens Phantom II Convertible Jacket (Sports Apparel)

This is quite simply the best cycling top I’ve ever owned, and as a regular cycle-commuter, cycle-tourer and sportif enthusiast, for many years now I’ve owned a few! In the UK’s changeable weather it can be hard to gauge the right clothing combination/s to keep you adequately warm and dry without carrying bulky additional layers (OK if you’re touring perhaps, but the exact opposite of what you want to be doing on say a sportif or a quick, longer distance ride!). Wish I’d learned this top earlier, it really does do it all. I’ve had it for just about a year now and find that it fulfills all the requirements for which I’d earlier packed a lightweight rainproof, a gilet and an extra lightweight thermal. It’s more waterproof than it modestly claims to be, I’ve remained dry in some heavy prolonged showers. It’s very breathable (as breathable as any non-proofed jersey) yet completely windproof too. Wearing only a long-sleeved Helly Hensen thermal underneath I’ve found it warm even when mountain-biking in the snows we had last January on Dartmoor (allowing for windchill, temperatures as low as -12 were reported), I still felt warm enough while resting too. The arms detach easily, a bit detailed perhaps but fine once you’ve got the knack. Despite their diminutive size the small zips seem to be robust enough; the speed with which I can exchange them doesn’t place me off from pulling over to take them off/on during sportifs or timed events. With a light vest underneath and arms removed it’s cool enough up to the warmest summer days..wish I’d worn it during last year’s Exmoor Beast! Pockets are adequately spacious and secure. I’m going to buy another to every second with and prolong the life of my bestow jacket!

this is just perfect for biking, running, x-country skiing! keeps you warm but allows moisture out reasonably well. fits very well. an option to detach sleeves is also very useful.

The Gore Phanton II is an brilliant jacket and fits me perfectly! I’m usually right inbetween a Large and a Standard but I opted for the standard and it’s taylor made!!I am 5’9″ – 40″ chest – 11st 12lb for reference. Well worth the money I reckon.
